An Adult Addition to the Tank
Copadichromis sp. "mloto red tips" is a stunning representative of the Utaka group from Lake Malawi. Aquarists often find it challenging to wait for juveniles to develop their full coloration, making the acquisition of an adult pair particularly rewarding. The male is renowned for the characteristic red markings on its fins, which give the species its common name.
Behavior and Challenges
Like many others in the Copadichromis genus, this species is a peaceful inhabitant that thrives in open water. One of the primary challenges for the hobbyist is capturing the fish's beauty; it is extremely active and therefore very difficult to photograph clearly. It requires both good equipment and a fair amount of luck to correctly capture the male's colors on camera.
Aquarium Care
To ensure the well-being of the fish, the aquarium should be of a reasonable size, preferably over 160 liters, with plenty of swimming space. As a mouthbrooder, it is relatively easy to breed if the right conditions are provided. A varied diet of quality food is essential to maintain the intense colors that the male is so famous for.
