I bought this new small aquarium in December 2002 with the purpose of having it stand on top of my small shelving unit along with an identical one (where my 16-liter had also stood). There was just enough room for that, and since I don't need more than 12 liters when I need to hatch eggs from angelfish and the like, I got a doubling in the same space. This was actually my first aquarium ever that was not bought used. I bought it at Akvariewest, but have afterwards seen it cheaper elsewhere.
Technique
As a filter, I use a small air-driven internal filter and the aquarium is heated by a 25W heater. The lighting is a homemade fixture made from half of a fixture from my 63-liter. The light is controlled by the same weekly timer that controls my other aquariums.
Interior
The aquarium has no decorations or substrate.
Planting
At the moment, I only have the floating plant Najas guadelupensis in the aquarium.
Usage
At one point I had three 12-liter ones, but when I got my new 100-liter for the top of the shelf, I sold two and kept only this one, which I can set up more or less temporarily when I need it. The idea is that it is suitable for artificial hatching of eggs from angelfish, ram cichlids, corydoras, or as a breeding aquarium for small tetra and barb species, such as red neon and harlequin rasbora, and not least as a birthing tank for guppies and other small livebearers.
