I bought this custom made tank in june 2004 to create a "perfect" finish on my small tank rack, while increasing the flexibility in uses, by using acrylic dividers in the tank. It was placed on top of my small tank rack, where I previously had 3 20 liter tanks and 2 12 liter tanks.
Technical details
The tank was filtered by a blue filter sponge mat measuring 100x25x5 cm. It had 4 separate air-lifts placed along the back of the tank. It was heated by a 100W Via Aqua steel heater with a separate sensor and an outside temperature regulator. The lighting was handled by a 18 Watt fluorescent tube mounted above the tank. There was also a 5 W low-energy light bulb to give a dusk like lighting before and after the main light came on. The lighting was controlled by two week timers.
Interior
The tank was without substrate and decorations, but it was divided in 4 separate compartments. I made the dividers from an acrylic plate which I bought in Jem og Fix. I cut it in the right size and made lots of small holes in each plate to ensure the water flow between each compartment. Apart from dividing the tank, the plates also kept the filter mat in place.
Plants
I only used floating plants like Hornwort (Ceratophyllum demersum) and Najas guadalupensis. They are both very fast growing and contributes to the water quality by using the surplus nutrients in the tank.
Use cases
I used the tank for growing out fry and as a temporary living quarter for fish there was up for sale.
