This is the first version of my aquarium plan, where I tried to plan my aquatic endeavors some time into the future. Things in italics I have already bought or done, and things that are struck through are the things I have regretted since I made the plan.
The plan is here primarily for historical reasons and as an example of how one can try to keep track of one's own plans.
2004 turned out very differently than I had hoped and was particularly characterized by disease and leaking aquariums, but I have adapted the aquariums and fish and now have a new plan to follow.
Aquariums and equipment
I have the aquariums I immediately have room for, with the exception of a shady plan dating back to 2003 to get a large corner aquarium in the living room. However, I don't have space for the 470-liter one I've fallen in love with. I would also have liked to replace the last of the old ones to avoid scratches and other blemishes, but initially, I will settle for replacing my 153-liter with a new 148-liter. And then I also "just" happened to buy a 54-liter starter set.
For the sake of the plants and photography, I also considered buying a double T5 fixture of 2x24W with a built-in reflector, which I would install over my new 148-liter.
Fish and plant purchases
I have made a list of the fish I would like to try my hand at in the future, as well as others I am just considering. Some of them are new fish I haven't tried before, others are old acquaintances.
- Livebearers
- Heterandia formosa
- Characins (primarily tetras)
Lemon Tetra, Hyphessobrycon pulchripinnisRed Phantom Tetra, Megalamphodus sweglesiFlame Tetra, Hyphessobrycon flammeusSerpae Tetra, Hyphessobrycon equesDwarf Pencilfish, Nannostomus marginatus
- Cyprinids
Tiger Barb, Puntius tetrazona
- Labyrinth fish
- Cichlids
- Egyptian Mouthbrooder, Pseudocrenilabrus multicolor
- African Butterfly Cichlid, Anomalochromis thomasi
Discus, Blue Diamond, Red Marlboro, Golden, Turquoise (Only solid colors without bars)
For most of the tetra and barb species, I will continuously get rid of the species where I have been successful in breeding them. Of the Malawis, I have Melanochromis auratus left, but they will be sold when they are fully grown.
Breeding
I have decided to try breeding a wide range of traditional egg-laying aquarium fish, from zebrafish to cardinal tetras.
